As part of the Brookleigh Mobility Corridor project, Homes England, through its consultant AECOM, is proposing changes to London Road, Burgess Hill. These changes include:
- Removing the short-stay parking bays outside Londis
- Banning parking outside 89-91 London Road
- Relocating the northbound bus stop
While improving pedestrian and cycling routes is important, these proposals fail to properly consider the needs of local businesses, residents, and public transport users.
If these plans go ahead, they will:
🚫 Hurt Local Businesses – Londis and nearby shops rely on short-stay parking for customers, deliveries, and passersby. Removing these spaces will reduce footfall and impact trade.
🚶 Create Challenges for Residents – The proposed parking ban outside 89-91 London Road will make it harder for those without off-street parking, particularly elderly and disabled residents.
🚌 Affect Public Transport Accessibility – Moving the bus stop outside 89-93 London Road may inconvenience passengers who rely on its current location.
What Needs to Change?
Although these plans are being put forward by Homes England, any changes to parking and traffic regulations will need to be approved by West Sussex County Council (WSCC).
We are calling on WSCC to reconsider these proposals and work towards a solution that:
✅ Supports pedestrians and cyclists without removing essential parking.
✅ Protects local businesses that rely on customer access.
✅ Maintains public transport accessibility for all.
✅ Ensures full community consultation before any final decisions are made.
