Why this petition matters
Play areas are part of everyday life for you and your family. They’re where children burn off energy after school, where friendships start, and where simple moments turn into lasting memories.
But across Mid Sussex, more and more of these spaces are being lost or left to decline.
You may have seen it yourself — equipment taped off, play areas closed, or spaces that just don’t feel as safe or well looked after as they should be. When that happens, it’s not just about a park. It means fewer places for children to play, fewer safe spaces close to home, and a loss for the whole community.
This petition is about bringing attention back to something that matters.
It’s about making sure the places your children and grandchildren use are safe, properly maintained, and there for the future. It’s about asking for clear action, not just short-term fixes.
By adding your name, you’re helping show that this matters to the community and that these spaces shouldn’t be allowed to fall behind.
We, the undersigned, call on Lib Dem-led Mid Sussex District Council to take urgent action to maintain and protect children’s play areas across Mid Sussex. This petition follows the closure of Chaffinch Close play area, the taping off of equipment deemed unsafe at other sites, and growing concern from families about neglected swings, overgrown hedges, and play spaces being left to deteriorate. At a time when council tax continues to rise, you and your family should not be seeing local play areas removed, restricted, or allowed to fall into disrepair. We therefore call on the Council to repair neglected equipment, replace removed equipment where appropriate, prevent any further loss of play provision, and publish a transparent maintenance and improvement plan.
